MDPL Sea Fishing Trip
Fishing Trip 2010The latest MDPL sponsored event is a day's sea fishing on Sunday the 3rd of October.

We will be setting out from Dunbar (south of Edinburgh) at around 8.30am for 6 hours and, depending on numbers, we will either charter 1 or 2 boats (each boat is licenced for 11 people, so places are restricted to a maximum of 22 people)

We will be going after mainly Cod, Mackerel, Ling, Pollock, although Wrasse, Dogfish and Coalfish are also quite common. The boat will supply all fishing tackle etc, but its always a good idea to bring a bit extra bait with you.
As this is a league sponsored event, the league will be laying on a bus, provided by B-Line travel and we will be picking people up between 7-8am at local pickup points (yet to be decided)
This should be a cracking day out and we'll be organising a couple of competitions for the day as well.
In terms of cost, it will be approx £30 all in, and as places are limited, the 1st 22 people with deposit of £20 will have their places guaranteed. To begin with, we will restrict places to MDPL members, but we will open it up to friends and family if we need to fill spaces up with a week to go.
End of Season Event
events

The 2009/10 season will draw to a close on 4th June, with the Presentation night which this year will be held in The Joker Bar.
Its shaping up to be a fantastic night out. There will be:

1. Presentation of league and tournament trophies/ prizes
2. Complimentary Drink
3. Live entertainment courtesy of the fantastic Robert T Leonard
4. Superb hot buffet (just ask the Cherrytree UPL players)
5. Free Raffle
6. Disco/ karaoke (time permitting)

This should be the best night out MDPL has held in years and we would ask you to bring your wives/ girlfriends along as they will enjoy themselves also (its not all about the trophies!)

The Joker has a max capacity of approx 130 people and places are bound to be in demand. Although all teams will have a small number of places reserved, additional tickets are available on a 1st come, 1st served basis. As there will probably only be around 30 of these additional tickets, make sure you get in early and register your interest in the appropriate forum to avoid disappointment!!! "
"Extra" tickets cost £3 each
Scottish Grand National Day Out
Grand NationalFollowing on from MDPL's successful golf day in September, we are now able to announce our 2nd "away day" in season 2009/ 10 for our league members.
Going with the popular vote in a recent web poll, MDPL are organising a day out at the Scottish Grand National, held at Ayr Racecourse on the 17th of April.
The day out will again be supported and subsidised by the league and the format of the day will be as follows:

Coach pick-up between 10.30 - 11am on the Saturday morning and arrive at the racecourse approx midday. The first race starts at 1.45pm and the last one starts at 5.35. The coach will pick everyone up outside the racecourse at 6pm and should arrive back in Motherwell around 7pm. For full details of the day's racing etc, visit Link

Cost for league members will be £16.00 which includes transport and Grandstand entry. If numbers exceed 36 people, then the cost may rise by up to £5 a head to cover the cost of an additional coach. In order to secure these prices, we need to book early (no later than 7th April), so sign up now on the relevant forum thread to make sure of your place at what is bound to be a great day out!
Our thanks also go to Superleague team sponsor Brian Breen of B-line travel for giving us preferential rates on the coach hire.
MDPL Golf Day 2009
GolfMDPL members were joined by some of our Uddingston League neighbours and guests for the recent inaugural Golf day at Mouse Valley Golf course near Lanark.
All 27 players (plus our league treasurer) had a great day out and enjoyed some friendly competition in what was the first sunny day in about 2 months.
MDPL Supports St Andrews Hospice
St Andrews Hospice FundraiserFollowing Bar 147B captain John Bryce's involvement with St Andrews Hospice last year, MDPL entered two teams in the St Andrews Hospice 2009 "Its a Knockout" fundraiser in Strathclyde Park. The team (Team "Roll It In")was involved in what was a great day for a fantastic cause.
Firstly the idea was to enter one team involving a representive of all 11 teams in MDPL ,but when Bob called to ask MDPL could enter two teams all the guys stepped up and "Just a Hit"entered also .

Bar 147 A and B Teams before the league playoff

Well, (no pun intended) another season has come and gone and what a season it has been. At National level Motherwell has enjoyed an unprecedented level of success, whilst Bar147 ended the Derby Inn's local dominance in recent years.

Super 11'sMotherwell District Pool League Win Scottish National Competition

Motherwell Pool League returned from Craig Tara in Ayr having won the Scottish Pool Association’s “Super 11’s” tournament In March.

After progressing from the group stages in top position, Motherwell A went on to defeat teams from Clackmannan, Dumfries, Bannockburn and Livingston, before facing Arbroath in the final.

The final was tense and closely contested, with a nervy final frame being required to separate the teams. Motherwell A won this and the 13 strong team were delighted to bring the trophy back home for the 1st time. The Motherwell “B” team also had a successful tournament, but unfortunately they were knocked out by a very strong Glasgow side at the last 32 stage.
